The Unofficial Transformers Club and Convention Exclusive Data Pages

Fun Publications Era BotCon Exclusives

Welcome to the Unofficial Transformers Club and Convention Exclusive Data Pages! Over the years, Fun Publications and its predecessors have produced over two hundred different Transformers toys. For the sake of clarity, these are broken down according to the following three pages:

This page covers BotCon exclusives from the Fun Publications era (2005 to 2016).
If you're looking for pre-2005 exclusives, click this link
If you're looking for Fun Publications exclusives connected to the Transformers Collectors' Club, click this link.
If you're looking for exclusives tied to a convention unrelated to BotCon, click this link.

Although I have made an effort to be thorough, there are still a few places on each of the pages where information is less than solid, and I would greatly appreciate any information anyone is able to provide. Please send me an e-mail through my blog, Blackrock's Toybox.

Hyperlinks to sources are provided where possible, but many of my sources are simply not accessible online, and are thus referenced in notes. In many cases, there are various factors that should be taken into account with regard to how an exclusive should be assessed, and these are noted, as well. In an effort to keep this page comparatively simple and easy to navigate, I have placed notes within mouseover text that only becomes visible if you hover your cursor over the appropriate text. Places where such notes are available are marked with an asterisk (*).

Deathsaurus

$265 for set of 7 (for club members. $50 more for non-members). Loose sets available for $140.*Because registration for the convention (with boxed set of toys) plus joining the Transformers club costs $10 less overall than the “non-members” price for registration with the boxed sets for most members, I do not list non-member prices. For boxed sets, it should be noted that the cost of attending the convention is included in the price. A purchase of a boxed set is required before a loose set may be purchased. Between this and the relative scarcity of loose sets, just going with loose set numbers is not a reliable measure of how the toys compare to their retail counterparts. 4.1 times (assuming all figures smaller than a deluxe count at the “basics” $7 price-point) / 2.2 times 1250 each of the first 7, sold in 800 box sets, and 450 bagged sets There were a number (believed to be several hundred) of boxed and bagged sets still available after the convention. The boxed sets finally sold out in 2010, leaving the club to decide what to do with remaining loose sets (which could previously only be purchased if a boxed set was purchased at the same time). In 2007, there were exclusives declared "sold out" before the convention even started for the first time ever.  This trend has continued in subsequent years, warranting the addition of one additional column, and a modification of the "number remaining column."

$279 for set of 5 (for club members.  $50 more for non-members). Loose sets available for $179.*Because registration for the convention (with boxed set of toys) plus joining the Transformers club costs $10 less overall than the “non-members” price for registration with the boxed sets for most members, I do not list non-member prices. 4.65 / 3.0 times Either 1500 or 1450 each of these, sold in 1100 (or 1050) box sets, and 400 bagged sets.*The number of box sets was given as 1050 at www.botcon.com on May 4, 2007. Also, an e-mail from Brian Savage was sent that evening, confirming the number 1050 and revealing the number of loose sets at 400. NOTE: This number represents an increase from the number of 200 loose sets originally printed on the BotCon 2007 brochure. However, all is not so tidy. When BotCon finally took place at the end of June, the certificate that comes with the box sets said that the number of such sets was 1100, and this number has been used in various (unofficial) places since. Attempts to clarify whether the number of box sets is, in fact, 1050 or 1100 have not met with definitive success, although I have come to believe that 1100 is the correct figure. The number of loose sets, 400, seems not to be in question. Box sets sold out by May 4, 2007

Then, on May 15, 2007, BotCon.com was updated to reflect that the loose sets had also sold out. The Alpha Trion/Weirdwolf sets went up sometime between 3:00 & 4:00 pm, PDT, on Monday, July 16, 2007. I personally ordered a set at that time. There were still 19 sets left in the store according to a shopping cart check at 6:30 am, PDT on Tuesday, July 17, 2007. Evil Jazz

$285 for set of 6 (for club members.  $50 more for non-members). Loose sets available for $189.*Because registration for the convention (with boxed set of toys) plus joining the Transformers club costs $10 less overall than the “non-members” price for registration with the boxed sets for most members, I do not list non-member prices.

3.9 / 2.6 times 1150 each of these, sold in 950 box sets,*Source: Certificate of authenticity packaged with BotCon 2008 box set. and 200 bagged sets. Box sets sold out by February 25, 2008 (if not earlier).*On February 15, 2008, a notice went up at BotCon.com indicating that all remaining box sets were to be sold to attendees only, and that any non-attendee orders made after February 14th would be put on a waiting list, and filled if sets remain after the convention. A post made on the TFW2005 boards, dated February 25, 2008, cites an e-mail from Angie at FP saying that the sets had sold out that day. This is the same date as the last two figures of the box set, Starscream and Razorclaw, were revealed at BotCon.com. The "SOLD OUT" announcement was not made official until February 28th, at which point Brian sent out an e-mail with this information to TCC members, and the announcement was posted at BotCon.com. The text of the e-mail contains this additional announcement: "If you have sent in a registration since February 14, we will be emailing or calling you to find out which package you want to switch to." This makes it seem possible the sets were sold out as early as the 14th. However, several people have indicated that they registered later than this date, and were charged or otherwise received confirmation for the boxed set, so this seems unlikely. A warehouse find made a few more available on the evening of November 23, 2010, but this is an aberration.

3.7 / 2.5 times*Retail prices are especially in flux in Spring 2009, so it's worth spelling out that I'm assuming the following: Deluxes@$11 each, Voyager@$20, and Ultra@$27. Note that electronics present in the retail Energon Landmine are not present in Landshark, which uses the same mold. 1750 each of these, sold in 1350 box sets,*Source: Certificate of authenticity packaged with BotCon 2009 box set. and 400 bagged sets. "No" for box sets*Extras were made available at the club store June 8, 2009. The store only lets you see up to 20 units in a cart, so there's no definitive word on how many more than 20 were left, but based on comments made toward the end of the convention, there couldn't have been too many left over. An e-mail dated May 18th, 2009, said there were less than 60 sets left. Unofficially, I'd say that there were between 30-40 sets left when the convention ended on May 31st.

Loose sets sold out by March 2, 2009.
*Source: Announcement at BotCon.com on March 2, 2009. This is a mere 5 days after pre-registration opened up. The same announcement also said that non-attendee sets were also sold out. It was never suggested before this date that non-attendee sets were only available as a limited number, nor had it yet been suggested how many box sets were made, although an announcement at BotCon.com on March 3rd suggests that several hundred box sets remained available for attendees, who were now only allowed one set per attendee. Non-attendee wait lists were announced, however, in case box sets remained after the convention attendees got theirs. Since the sets didn't actually sell out by the end of the convention, it is believed that anyone who asked to be put on the non-attendee wait list was able to get a set.

Between this and the relative scarcity of loose sets, just going with loose set numbers is not a reliable measure of how the toys compare to their retail counterparts.

3.9 / 2.7 times*I've modified the retail estimates somewhat from last year (to reflect the ways that prices seem to have settled down): Deluxes@$11 each, Voyager@$20, and Ultra@$25. Note that electronics present in the retail Universe Onslaught are not present in Clench, which uses the same mold. 1800 of each of these, sold in 1400 box sets, and 400 bagged sets. Box sets sold out by June 9, 2010*Source: E-mail from Brian Savage dated June 9, 2010. Although attendee and non-attendee sets were counted separately for at least part of the process, both seemed to sell out the same day. A warehouse find made a few more available on the evening of November 23, 2010, but this is an aberration.

Loose sets sold out by June 5, 2010*Posts on the Official Transformers Club forums, dated June 5, 2010, noted that loose sets were no longer an available option during the online registration process. Although Fun Publications never officially confirmed this, an e-mail dated June 8th which stated that there were fewer than 20 each of attendee and non-attendee box sets (with no reference to loose sets) would seem to argue that loose sets were indeed gone. A warehouse find made a few more available on the evening of November 23, 2010, but this is an aberration.

Slice

Free to attendees buying the BotCon 2010 boxed set. N/A Unknown Yes*Slice was a "free" toy given to attendees only, with "extras" traditionally given to volunteers at the convention. In a post on the TCC forums on 1/21/12, custom class organizer Shawn Tessmann confirmed that some volunteers received the molds for the "G2 Sideswipe" custom figure because supplies of Slice ran out.

G2 Sideswipe*Prior to 2010, Customizing Class figures were just unpainted samples of a either a retail toy or another toy produced by Fun Publications. However, starting in 2010, the Customizer Class "raw materials" have been produced in unique colors.

$85 for class (or free to some volunteers) N/A* The $85 paid for the class is at least as much for the experience as for the figure itself. It would therefore be improper to guess at a multiplier in this case. 75?*There were 50 people total enrolled between the two Customizer Classes. The number 75 represents an estimate to allow for the fact that extras were provided to at least some volunteers, and is based on a "less than 75" number given for the 2011 custom figure--Minerva--in a November 2011 press release for a club contest. However, this estimate remains unconfirmed in regard to G2 Sideswipe. N/A*Traditionally, the attendee-only figure--Slice in the case of BotCon 2010--was given to volunteers at the convention. The fact that some of the G2 Sideswipe molds were given to volunteers after supplies of Slice ran out confirms that more molds were made than class attendees, but there is still no way of knowing the exact number.

Dead End

$315 for set of 5 (for club members. $70 more for non-members).

4.9 / 3.3 times*Animated Deluxe molds represented in this set ranged from $10-15 on their original releases. Box sets sold out by March 27, 2011*Source: E-mail from Brian Savage dated March 27, 2011. Loose sets sold out by March 22, 2011
*Source: E-mail from Brian Savage dated March 22, 2011. Some sources suggest the loose sets were gone in less than half a day. The e-mail notes that some loose sets may become available as duplicate orders are processed. This eventually happened on August 4, 2011. It was not immediately apparent on the club store whether or not these were still available, as one had to call a phone number to even order them, but it is assumed that these sold out quickly thereafter.

I went with the former. 1500 3-packs Yes*Although these were indeed announced as SOLD OUT by the convention's end, an extremely limted number of leftovers were made available at the club store on August 4, 2011. These quickly sold out, as well. Within a few hours.

Fisitron

Free to attendees buying the BotCon 2011 boxed set. N/A Unknown N/A*Since Fisitron was a "free" toy given to attendees only, it is assumed that more were made than were given away, but these will never be sold separately by the convention owners.

Minerva*Customizing Class figure

$85 for class N/A*The $85 paid for the class is at least as much for the experience as for the figure itself. It would therefore be improper to guess at a multiplier in this case. <75*There were 60 people total enrolled between the two Customizer Classes. One assumes that the extras cited in this link were to facilitate extra parts. N/A*There were 60 people total enrolled between the two Customizer Classes. Even allowing for a few extras needed for parts, I'd expect that to leave a few left over. One was used as a prize for a club contest in August/September, 2011. None, but Shawn Tessmann created 2 styles of custom antennae to add to the figure's head.

BotCon 2012 - April 26-29, 2012

Shattered Glass
Ultra Magnus

$340 for set of 6 (for club members. $75 more for non-members). Loose sets available for $250.*Because registration for the convention (with boxed set of toys) plus joining the Transformers club costs $35 less overall than the “non-members” price for registration with the boxed sets for most members, I do not list non-member prices.

4.0 / 2.9 times*Approximate 2012 retail prices by size class: Deluxe - $13, Voyager - $20. 2300 each of these, sold in 1800 box sets, and 500 bagged sets. Yes*Original link was to BotCon's Twitter page, but a reset caused that reference to be lost. I don't consider this link to be as authoritative, but at least it does assert that the toys were "sold out at the convention." January 6, 2012 (attendees only)

Longarm*Customizing Class figure

$115 for class N/A*The $115 paid for the class is at least as much for the experience as for the figure itself. It would therefore be improper to guess at a multiplier in this case. ~120*There were 120 people total enrolled between the four Customizer Classes. One assumes that there will be extras. BotCon 2013 - June 27-30, 2013

Hoist

$365 for set of 5 (for club members. $85 more for non-members). Loose sets available for $275.*Because registration for the convention (with boxed set of toys) plus joining the Transformers club costs $43 less overall than the “non-members” price for registration with the boxed sets for most members, I do not list non-member prices.

4.1 / 3.1 times*Approximate 2013 retail prices by size class: Deluxe - $15, Voyager - $22. Note that a weapon containing electronics included with the retail Prime Dreadwing toy, which uses the same mold as Megaplex, was not included with Megaplex. ??? each of these, sold in ??? box sets, and 450 bagged sets.*The number of bagged sets was lowered from the 550 originally printed in the brochure. The conversation on Twitter suggests that FunPub occasionally shifts numbers from "non-attending vs attending, loose vs boxed and so on...." Also note that, for the first time ever, the total number of box sets made was not mentioned at any point in the convention materials, and that they have not yet (as of 4/25/14) responded to inquries for box set numbers, leaving this number a mystery. Blastcharge*Customizing Class figure

$120 for class including figure, or $75 for unpainted assembled figure 5.0 times*Assuming the $75 price for the figure by itself. 1120?*There were 120 custom class slots, and for the first time this year, pre-registrants could order an unpainted, assembled version of the custom class figure without being part of the class. According to an e-mail from Pete Sinclair dated 5/12/14, there were 1000 figures. A further e-mail from Pete Sinclair dated 7/21/16, specified 600 pre-assembled figures for the BotCon 2016 custom class figure, and I'm assuming that specification applies to previous years, as well, hence the total above 1000. $395 for set of 5 (for club members. $100 more for non-members). Loose sets available for $280.*Because registration for the convention (with boxed set of toys) plus joining the Transformers club costs $58 less overall than the “non-members” price for registration with the boxed sets for most members, I do not list non-member prices. For boxed sets, it should be noted that the cost of attending the convention is included in the price. A purchase of a boxed set is required before a loose set may be purchased. Packrat

$409 for set (for club members. $100 more for non-members). 3.6 / 2.7 times*As Fun Pub works more and more "outside the box," approximate retail prices are harder to judge, but here are my estimates for 2015 by size class: Microns - $3, Legends - $10, Deluxe - $17, Voyager - $25. It's especially hard to assess for that Pretender shell and the extra Oilmaster weapons, but let's say $10 added on top. 2000 each of these, sold in 1500 box sets, and 500 bagged sets.*Since BotCon 2013, the Certificate of Authenticity has not included the number of box sets produced, but Pete gave box set numbers to me in an e-mail dated 8/17/15.
